I’m always getting people asking me “When are you going to make a normal beer?”
Now, I know they mean one that is regular strength, or even *gasp* a mid. That’s unlikely to happen, and definitely not going to happen to a subscription beer, simply because that isn’t what people signed up for. These beers are about $13-18 a pop, depending on postage, and I wouldn’t want to be forced to buy that if it were me paying for it.
But I had a problem - I had a tank to fill and I hadn’t written a recipe. I wouldn’t be able to go and pick up ingredients in time, which meant it wouldn’t come out of tank in time, which means I wouldn’t refill the tank in time to take a small break in January… you get it.
This beer was destined to be a kitchen sink type thing, with all the leftover bits and pieces I had yet to figure out what to do with.
It is kinda like an IPA from 2010, but it’s got a lager yeast. So I guess it is kinda an IPL, but those tend to be more of a lean, west coast affair, whereas this was decidedly malt forward. But it finishes clean, and has classic C hops. But then again, it is juicy and smooth. Pillowy from the oats, chewy from the biscuit malt, dry from the yeast.
It is a beer outside of style. but it tastes so very NORMAL. Don’t overthink it.
