FAQ

Who are you?

My name is Rhys, and I am the founder and brewer of Evil Mega Corporation. I have been working in the craft beer industry for 19 years, in various capacities.

My day job for the last 7 years has been as the head brewer of Otherside Brewing Co.

What is up with the name?

Evil Mega Corporation started as a joke with some industry friends about 13 years ago. Wouldn’t it be funny if we called a small independent brewery that? At a time when all the evil mega corporations are craft-washing their images to pretend to be humble little indie brands?

We all had a good laugh.

Then I forgot that it was just a joke, and by the time I remembered it was too late.

What do you do?

Evil Mega Corporation is a brewery, it will make beer. Not very much. Not very often. But it is a thing that will happen from time to time.

There is a very small production facility somewhere in the industrial suburb of Bibra Lake, Western Australia. Inside is a 200L brewery with a bunch of barrels and fermentation eggs and things like that. Currently it is best described as a “work in progress”.

It will not be open to the public, as most of the time nobody is even there.

Why is your brewery so small?

I didn’t want to buy anything bigger. It is just a fun side project. I have no intention of quitting my day job, making more sessionable and crowd-pleasing beers.

A larger brewery means getting finance or investors, employing staff, and building an empire - which was never part of the plan. Economies of scale are great if you have mainstream beer with broad appeal, but that is not what this is about.

As a result it will stay independent and tiny forever. It is perfectly scaled to fill one barrel at a time.

Also, brewing into a 200L mash tun makes you feel like a giant.

What kind of beers will you make?

For the first year Evil Mega Corp will focus on big IPAs, barrel-aged stouts, imperial fruited kettle sours and the occasional hazy. Silly beers like that. All of these beers will land in the region of 8-12% ABV and be sold in 500ml cans.

Through the cash-flow generated by those beers a mixed-fermentation solera program will be established, along with a small manual bottling line. The first batches being available in years 2 and 3.

Where will you sell your beer?

Mostly online via subscription, you can read the details here. These can be purchased through the online shop, and subscribers are also able to purchase any leftover stock that is surplus to the release.

Sometimes the odd keg will be sold to local venues and bottle shops, and occasionally there will be a collaboration or other release that will be available to the public.

Are you sure this is a good idea?

No.

Can I invest?

No.
