Another single malt, single hop beer. Australian pilsner malt and Citra lupomax, which I had lying around. 100% pilsner malt seems to be the standard for west coast IPAs these days, but this is a lager, and I was going for something different.
As a result, I chose to waste time on the internet while doing an extended boil. First brew was 2 hours, second was 2.5. The system is all electric elements, which dramatically boosts the melanoidin development, plus to help it along I dropped the pH into a 4.9ish territory. I read somewhere that colour picks up higher at lower pH. Did it work? Who knows. Is that thing I read even true? I don’t know that either, as I cannot find my original source.
Maybe I dreamt it.
Enjoy.
